Hi! I’m Kate Peabody, one of your Growing U coaches. If you’re anything like me, you might have walked into the Clear Creek Makerspace, seen all of the tools and opportunities in all of their glory, been so excited, and started to feel your heart race as you thought…“Wow! There is a lot here! So many possibilities!  I feel a bit overwhelmed, actually. I don’t know where to start…I have no idea what I’m doing in a lot of these areas, and there are so many experts - I’ll never be that good...”

Or maybe, when you’re learning something new, starting a new project, or completing finishing touches, you find yourself shrinking away and thinking, “My ideas are dumb.” “I don’t want to bug anyone to ask for help, my projects aren’t important.” “I’m embarrassed to share what I’m working on.” “This didn’t turn out the way I planned - I’m a failure.”

You’re not alone in these thoughts. Even seasoned makers have moments of, “I’m no good, this sucks.” “I’m no artist.” “I’ll never be able to figure this out.” “I’ll never be good enough to earn money as a maker.” “I don’t have enough time for this.”

These thoughts often arise when stakes are high – such as when we’re doing something we really care about!  We call these thoughts the “inner critic” aka “inner gremlin” aka “imposter syndrome” aka “self-saboteur,” as they are false statements that feel very real and often stop us in our tracks before we even get started.

The good news is, you can absolutely learn how to talk back to, manage and quiet the inner critic so you can stay in your flow, enjoy your creativity, honor your spirit and keep growing to reach your potential as a maker - whether that’s for fun or for profit.

So that’s what this workshop is all about. Learning how to tune into, and start to turn down, your personal inner critic as a maker. It will be a mix of learning; personal and group reflection and sharing; and completing a hands-on activity to leave with a personalized reminder of how to move forward even when things feel tough.

We’ll also use it as an opportunity to start to get to know each other; co-create intentional community; and discuss the life, career and business topics on your mind that you’d like to learn more about or address in future workshops or group coaching sessions.
